Companies are fleeing the UK as Brexit looms

Companies around the world are changing their tunes and addresses — uprooting supply chains and moving their headquarters to get ahead of unsettled global chaos.  Firms are bracing for a "no-deal" scenario, which could lead to even more corporations changing addresses. Dyson said this week that it would move its headquarters from the U.K. to Singapore— not because of Brexit, according to its founder, Sir James Dyson, but to "future-proof" the business.

UK employment total hits record high

The number of people in work in the UK has reached a record high of 32.54 million, latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show. Unemployment was flat, with a small increase of 8,000 between September and November for a total of 1.37 million. Average earnings excluding bonuses increased by 3.3% in the year to November, as wage rises continued to outpace inflation.

The number of job vacancies rose by 10,000 to a record high of 853,000.

Health & Wellbeing Suffers due to Weekend Work

Extensive work commitments are having a detrimental impact on the health and wellbeing of small business owners in the U.K., according to new research from Zurich UK. The study found that two in five (41%) are affected by intense work-related stress with more than half (51%) of small business owners suffering from sleep disruption and a third (34%) regularly missing family events.

The top graduate starting salary is now £60,000

The highest graduate starting salary has hit £60,000 for the first time, an annual survey has found. The same report found the average starting salary for engineering firms was £27,000, while the average for technology firms was £31,500.

Are Engineers paid enough?

In the last engineering salary survey 68% of respondents thought engineering was undervalued, and 10% were so unhappy they were looking to change jobs. Only 19% made positive noises about their pay.
